The Origin of Urban Development in Harmony with Nature and Local Communities

In 1969, the first full-scale suburban SC in Japan was opened. With Tamagawa Takashimaya Department Store as an anchor tenant, this area is growing continuously with more than 300 specialty stores and cultural centers, backed by a prosperous trade area centered on Setagaya-ku. In 2019, Tamagawa Takashimaya S・C celebrated its 50th anniversary. It was renewed with the concept of “Tamagawa’s Lifestyle Center” where people could spend their time in high quality. In May 2020, the atrium space “GRAND PATIO” located on the first floor of the Main Building reopened after renovation. As a “place to spend and gather”, it will continue to create not only commercial but also sustainable community spaces in harmony with people and nature.

On April 23, 1992, a complete renovation had been made to the previous predecessor Kashiwa Rose Town to create the "Kashiwa Takashimaya Station Mall" with Takashimaya as the key tenant. A “New Urban-type SC”, Unified the Attractions of Department Store and Specialty Stores in All the Four Buildings.

A New Urban-type Shopping Center that consists of four buildings: Main Building (Nihombashi Takashimaya), ANNEX (Specialty Store), East Building(Pokémon Center TOKYO DX&Pokémon Cafe)and Takashimaya Watch Maison. The ANNEX features a lineup of stores from groceries, fashion, sundries and restaurants that meet the needs of the “Nihombashi consumers” who have a base for their daily life in Nihombashi. There is a pedestrian road between the Main Building and ANNEX called “Nihombashi Galleria” which creates a bustling atmosphere in the city. In December 2021, “Nihombashi 3 Chome Square”, the first office building produced by Toshin Development in the adjacent area, was completed.
