The Origin of Urban Development in Harmony with Nature and Local Communities

In 1969, the first full-scale suburban SC in Japan was opened. With Tamagawa Takashimaya Department Store as an anchor tenant, this area is growing continuously with more than 300 specialty stores and cultural centers, backed by a prosperous trade area centered on Setagaya-ku. In 2019, Tamagawa Takashimaya S・C celebrated its 50th anniversary. It was renewed with the concept of “Tamagawa’s Lifestyle Center” where people could spend their time in high quality. In May 2020, the atrium space “GRAND PATIO” located on the first floor of the Main Building reopened after renovation. As a “place to spend and gather”, it will continue to create not only commercial but also sustainable community spaces in harmony with people and nature.

In Futakotamagawa, not only the Main Building and the South Building of Tamagawa Takashimaya SC, but also the development of street and back alleys is creating the breadth and depth to the city. The surrounding facilities such as “Marronnier Court”, “Garden Island”, etc. enhance the greenery and pedestrian circulation of the city, and create a beautiful cityscape that is full of fun to stroll around. In 2004, the “Yanagikoji” which has a tasteful atmosphere of Kyomachiya townhouse with stone pavement was opened at the back of the South Building. Like the opening of “Minamikado” in 2018, Toshin Development will continue to deepen the urban development of Futakotamagawa which have nurtured for the past 50 years.

The Nagareyama Otakanomori area, with the Tsukuba Express “Nagareyama Otakanomori Station” at the heart of it, has grown as “the Forest town closest to the center of Tokyo”. Toshin Development agreed with the local administration’s vision “Forest Restoration and Greenery Urban Development”, and hence opened “Nagareyama Otakanomori S・C” in the spring of 2007 based on the branding concept of “Town Center of the Forest”. With Takashimaya Food Maison, supermarket, cinema complex, and specialty stores for daily goods as key tenants, it provides an enriched lifestyle through a full range of tenant mix with fashion, hobbies, and entertainment.

Carry out and Extend “Nagareyama’s Lifestyle”

In Nagareyama, Toshin Development has been collaborating with the local government and other partners to build local communities and sustainable local society. Under the development concept of “Nagareyama’s Lifestyle” with easy access to the center of Tokyo and the tranquility of suburban living, we not only operate “Hanamizuki Terrace”, which are all equipped with commercial facilities as well as medical, educational, and restaurants, but also manage “Komorebi Terrace”, “Kokage Terrace”, and “TX Grand Avenue Otakanomori”. On April 23, 1992, a complete renovation had been made to the previous predecessor Kashiwa Rose Town to create the "Kashiwa Takashimaya Station Mall" with Takashimaya as the key tenant. Kashiwa is located about 30 minutes away from the center of Tokyo, and residential development in the surrounding areas has become active due to the opening of Tsukuba Express. It is still growing as a market that is blessed with a trade area population of approximately 1.51 million, mainly in six neighboring cities. Kashiwa Takashimaya Station Mall boasts of attracting an overwhelming 26 million visitors per year. It is highly regarded as a full-scale SC that exceeds the concept of a mere “Station Building” . In 2018, "FOOD STREET" was opened as a floor for food retailers in the Mall.

TACHIKAWA TAKASHIMAYA S.C.In November 2023, Tachikawa Takashimaya S.C. reopened as an all-specialty store　mall. Introducing specialty stores meeting the needs of daily necessities and forming a community zone utilizing the rooftop, we are advancing the shopping center as a "place to live" which is rooted in the lives of local customers.

WAKABA KEYAKI MALLToshin Development expects this facility to be a “Local Community Center” that serves as a place of relaxation and information exchange. Plenty of greenery was placed in and around this open-mall with a supermarket as its key tenant. It is a community-based mall in a small trade area with a well-balanced mix of tenants that handles daily necessities and discretionary items.

A “New Urban-type SC”, Unified the Attractions of Department Store and Specialty Stores in All the Four Buildings.

A New Urban-type Shopping Center that consists of four buildings: Main Building (Nihombashi Takashimaya), ANNEX (Specialty Store), East Building（Pokémon Center TOKYO DX＆Pokémon Cafe）and Takashimaya Watch Maison. The ANNEX features a lineup of stores from groceries, fashion, sundries and restaurants that meet the needs of the “Nihombashi consumers” who have a base for their daily life in Nihombashi. There is a pedestrian road between the Main Building and ANNEX called “Nihombashi Galleria” which creates a bustling atmosphere in the city. In December 2021, “Nihombashi 3 Chome Square”, the first office building produced by Toshin Development in the adjacent area, was completed. This has further deepened our role as "the anchor of the city" in the group’s comprehensive strategy of urban development.

SHINJUKU TAKASHIMAYA TIMES SQUARELocated next to Shinjuku Station, one of the world's largest terminals, It celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2021. as a landmark of the South side of Shinjuku Station. As an urban shopping center with “Restaurants Park”, which is one of the largest restaurant areas in Shinjuku and large-scale specialty stores, the annual number of visitors reaches approximately 20 million. It will continue to evolve to meet a wide array of commercial areas’ needs.

NAMBA DINING MAISONIn March 2010, Namba Dining Maison was opened on the 7th to 9th floors of Takashimaya Osaka Store as one of the biggest restaurant areas of the department stores in Kansai region. Based on the idea of “35 delicious affordable restaurants of Namba in the station building”, Namba Dining Maison has developed a restaurant area which fits the reputation of Osaka-the city of food, where people can enjoy their meals and have conversations at ease.

NAMBA PARKS T-terrace by TAKASHIMAYA GROUPThe area produced by Toshin Development in Namba Parks, with a fitness club on the ground floor, and fashion and sundries shops on the second floor. In addition, there are shops offering various services including a hair salon located on the third floor. It offers a “good quality of everyday life” to the “new city dwellers”.

TAKASHIMAYA HIGASHI BEKKANTakashimaya Higashi Bekkan features an Art Deco architectural style registered as a tangible cultural property of Japan. With the renovation of Takashimaya Higashi Bekkan in 2020, a new serviced residence “Citadines Namba” and a new style cafeteria “Community Food Hall Osaka Nipponbashi” were completed.

HAKATA RIVERAIN MALLHakata Riverain consists of Hotel Okura, Hakataza theater, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, etc. As the core commercial complex of Hakata Riverain, Hakata Riverain Mall is managed and operated by Toshin Development.
